I read with great interest “MSU Police Violate Rights” and I have a simple question: What rights infringement can he substantiate? In the column, Zackory Kirk said the student told him that she was “verbally assaulted… and forced into making false, incriminating statements.” May I ask why he believes this to be true?
In the same column he states that “I contacted Rich, and she said the allegations made against her were absolutely false.” May I ask why he believes this to be untrue?
I understand that he is “outraged at the great injustice committed against these MSU students.” However, I have to ask again: what injustice?
Please understand that since I was not present during the investigation, I am not taking a side in this matter. However, unless I’m mistaken, Kirk was not present either.
Kirk’s position as opinion editor carries with it a great deal of responsibility. Each and every column he writes becomes part of his life’s work. I’ve read many of Kirk’s previous columns and agreed with some, disagreed with others. This particular column, however, is the only one I can remember where he exihibited more emotion than judgment.
