Facial hair trend resurfaces in Starkville, on campus
Makin' changes
by Bailey Singletary
Black-eyed peas, Barack Obama's presidential inauguration and a new school semester are three things involved with the turning of 2009. While these occurrences are expected and obvious, I found with social observation that also with the New Year is the return of men's facial hair. It is resurfacing rapidly in many different forms. I have noticed more beards, mustaches, goatees and the ever-so-popular "scruff " appearing on campus as well as in the entertainment world than I seemed to in the past 365 days. (3) comments

On Dec. 27, the conflict between Israel and Gaza broke into allout war. Since then, many have blamed Israel for the deaths of nearly 900 Palestinians, nearly half of them civilians. Riots and protests against the invasion of Gaza are being held everywhere from the Middle East to cities in Europe - even here in the U.S. People are gathering everywhere to condemn the "atrocities" and "genocide" committed by Israel. One million people reportedly protested in Damascus, Syria alone. (13) comments
Finding myself in Mexico
Gray Matters
by Matt Watson
In the midst of a long recession, my family and I found it wise to go on a cruise to Mexico. Although I felt like an excessively rich snob lavishing in all manner of vile indulgences (multiple trips an hour to the self-serve ice cream machine) while complaining about a lack of service to a staff of foreign workers who leave their home seven months at a time for little pay, cruises themselves aren't really expensive. Traveling itself is the expensive part. (1) comment
Bikes mirror European culture
Fun world station

Oh Lord, y'all. It's that time of year again. And by that time of year, I mean Jan. 13. We've returned from holiday, and some of us (you, in particular) are currently reading The Reflector. It's a great day. It's a great life. My life was specifically great over the break, as I spent a large portion of it in Europe. Headquartered in Liege, Belgium, I was able to branch out and see several different cities and a few countries. I had never been abroad, so it was a real treat for me. (22) comments
