Dawgs top Tigers for second straight victory

The Bulldogs had been running the football all game long. So, why on third-and-goal, with the game on the line, would they even dream of doing anything different? With five minutes left in the fourth quarter, Christian Ducré took the football on a draw play, found a crease in the Auburn defense and romped five yards into the end zone, capturing a 19-14 Bulldog win over the Tigers. The Mississippi State men's cross country team finished second overall, and the women's cross country team placed fourth overall Friday at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The men's team, which was coming off a first-place overall finish at their season-opening meet, continued its impressive start to the season by finishing with three runners in the top 10. Soccer tops Rice, falls to Central Florida

Mississippi State's soccer team went 1-1 through its weekend stand of home games, falling victim to a late goal in Friday's 3-2 loss to Central Florida before a late comeback against Rice ensured a 2-1 win on Sunday. After tying the game at 2-2 with just six minutes left, the Bulldogs suffered their third straight loss by one goal when Courtney Whidden's second goal of the game handed Central Florida a late 3-2 win. The MSU softball squad began its fall exhibition schedule Sunday, defeating Alabama-Huntsville and Wallace State by scores of 3-2. The games were a part of MSU's fall softball tournament, the first in a series of three fall tournaments MSU will host this semester in Starkville. (0) comments

The MSU men's and women's tennis teams earned several victories this weekend in their first matches of the season. Friday, after receiving a first-round bye, senior Philippe Frayssinoux and sophomore Pjotrs Necajevs triumphed over Louisville's team of Kenneth Nordheim and Morten Sivertsen 8-5 in the A1 flight doubles draw, earning a chance in the semifinals. The MSU volleyball Lady Bulldogs dropped their first two SEC matches of the season Friday and Saturday. MSU (5-6, 0-2) fell to its first two conference opponents in both matches by scores of 3-1. Friday night, No. 20 Kentucky (10-2, 1-0) defeated Mississippi State by scores of 30-26, 30-27, 28-30, and 30-21. (0) comments
