It seems no one will go unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Starkville is no exception. The mayor and the board of aldermen of Starkville passed a resolution on March 20 declaring a civil state of emergency and called for certain businesses and public places to adhere to a strict set of guidelines that promotes the health of the community. These guidelines include alternative methods for food service and no gatherings of over 10 people in public places with some exceptions, such as hospitals, grocery stores and pharmacies. Additionally, the state of Mississippi is now on a statewide lockdown until April 20.
Businesses have risen to the challenge of adjusting their practices to fulfill these orders, such as alternative methods of distribution and extra sanitation. If you are a citizen of our quaint college town or a college student who finds themselves in Starkville for the rest of the semester like me, here is everything you need to know about the accommodations local businesses are making for customers like us.
First, many local eateries have customized their businesses to save you from a diet of microwaved food, your quarantine buddy's bad cooking or a 12th cup of Keurig coffee. Here is an alphabetically-ordered list of Starkville restaurants, dessert places and coffee shops who have transitioned to curbside, carryout, drive-through and/or delivery, as well as those which have also chosen to close and reopen at a later date.
For clarity's sake, definitions are as follows: curbside service means customers can park, order and wait for their food in the parking lot. Curbside pickup means that customers call ahead and pick up from the curb at a later time. Carryout/to-go means customers can call ahead of time to order and pick it up at a later time by walking into the restaurant. Delivery means customers can call and have their order delivered to their address.
