Alabama 'fat tax' to crack down on obese

Abstract:
Obesity. It seems to be all the rage these days. Adults are doing it. The kids are doing it. Even the elderly are in on this hot, new style. And I can't blame them. Why, you ask? Because we all must suffer for fashion....

Welcome back Mr. President.

I am uplifted that you have brought attention to this cruel plan. It seems we will have to be a sanctuary state for obese people.

There is one thing I don't understand. Aren't the obese people paying for their own costs?

Oh, I forgot we lived in a socialist country. My badness...

Are all employees being screened or just the fat ones. I ask this because believe it or not, skinny people can be unhealthy too !!! I know, I know... sounds unbelievable but it's true. That's right, thin folks can be diabetic. They can have high cholesterol, blood pressure, bad hearts. I am all for people being healthy but lets be fair about it, all or nothing.

Wow! Will Sweet 'Bama be assessing smokers and drinkers too? They are more expensive to support than the morbidly obese.

Actually, they have already imposed a 25 dollar smoker fee attached to their health care.

I know here in florida, on the SAME ballot, they did away with emmissions tests on the cars ( high cost, now more polution in the air) and then got rid of smoking in restruants ( bothering only partons who decited that instead of eating in a non smoking restruant that they would make all the smokers leave) Thus causing a lot of these places to go out of business because people would just to decide to eat somewhere like a bar. Bars are allowed to have smoking as long as the liquor sold is more than the food sold. So now, in essence they are pushing people tward Alcoholism due to the fact that the only place smokers can smoke is in a place that sells mostly Liquor. Crazy eh?

I hate this kind of stuff, first the smokers, now the obese, what next? Anyone who games will get taxed because of a higher carpel tunnel ratio to non gamers?

What REALLY is the ideal cost wise? People who vote for someones right to be removed or taxes assesed for a certain type of person ( obese, smoker ect) is only opening the door for them to take away or charge you for a right of yours! Keep that in mind!

A better solution is to look at an employee's actual use of the medical plan, then calculate their next year's premium on that actual use.

If some skinny person is out there exercising and injuries their knee, that surgery will be very costly. Especially compared to the extra $1,200 of an obese person.

If you use more, you should pay more. It's that simple! Let's not judge based on BMI - the data is available - make it real.

I know a few Cross Country guys that have had to have surgery due to their sports related injuries. This would put them in a high risk candidate pool. So once we get the fat people inline (or in shape), we can go after them. Those over-exerters.

The State has no problem telling its employees how to live their life and not to over indulge themselves. The State provides the health care so why should they not dictate extra cost to those who are not ideal.

I wonder what else could be a bad choice for you?

Why does this genius plan strike me as totally unconstitutional?

i feel like all obese people feel the need to speak out and they feel like they have to let poeple know that there is nothing wrong with being obese, it doesnt make you less of a person but bottom line is that it is unhealthy! stop being in denial and take control of your eating habits!
