Racism still plays role in America
Abstract:
Today marks the anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., who was shot in Memphis in 1968. He was shot presumably because he advocated equal rights for African-Americans....

I agree that racism is still a major issue in this country but it seems to have switched to rasicm against white Americans. Why is it that when every we have to feel out a job application or a college application we have to say what ethinicity we are? Race should not matter, the most qualified person should get the job or get into that school. Why is is ok for a black person to call a white person a "cracker" but it is considered racism if a white person calls a black person a "niger"? Why cant we agree that both words are equally bad and should not be said?
Im all for affirmative action but it seems that it has gone out of control.
Next there is the Obama issue. The problem here is not that he knew Rev Wright, but that he sat in the pew for 20 years while this racist pastor stood up there and ranted hate speeches about white America and the government. Why didnt he just get up and leave? Obama said in his speech that many people dont agree with what their pastors say. This is true but I might not agree with my pastor on certain theological issues, but what Wright was ranting is something completely different.
How do you think it would have been viewed if McCain would have gone to a church for 20 years where the pastor ranted hate speeches about black people? There is no way McCain would have been given the same leniency as Obama recieved.
This further shows the reverse racism in our country today.

I am wondering if your language and writing skills are reflective of your educational or intellectual levels. If so, then if you are passed over for a job which ultimately goes to a minority person in the future, it's a safe bet that the decision was probably based on qualifications -- not race. Learn to write before you publicly condemn others for their shortcomings, my friend.
Additionally, don't be rediculous by comparing McCain's pastor's attitudes with those of an African American pastor. A white pastor, as well as his congregation, have probably never experienced any type of racism in this country whatsoever. A black person deals with it on a daily basis. This leads to much pent-up rage and hostility in the black community, and their churches are the traditional institutions in which they vent their frustrations.

White people don't even realize their racists. Not only that, they have the power to to keep people from obtaining a piece of America's economic pie. Sure we can sit down at a table with whites or go to school with whites, but what good is that if we can't get the same jobs, the same pay, the same loan rates, etc...as whites...To be honest, white people are afraid that if Obama is elected, their reign of power and entitlement will end, which is going to happen anyway. In addition, Obama will have access to all sorts of documents that have been kept secret, you know, documents that reveal the plot against MLK, Malcolm X, the men of Tuskegee...and must I go on??? Be glad that black people are loving and forgiving people....

It's these general attitudes that promote racism in the first place. You can't group all white people as racist any more than you can group all black people as loving and forgiving.
And the whole "access to secret documents" argument is just stupid. Are you implying that white America is trying to keep these things secret? Did you forget that Colon Powell was the National Security Advisor under Reagan, or did you just not know that? Surely the National Security Advisor would have access to whatever documents he wanted. Or if not him, what about Condoleezza Rice, who also served as the National Security Advisor and is currently the Secretary of State??? Seriously, you need to give that argument a rest.

Ryan,
Any section on race in a job application is optional, and should be clearly identified as such on the application.
Who said it was ok for a black person to call a white person a cracker? Are you referring to comedians such as Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle? I've never heard or seen that condoned in any non-artistic fashion.
By the way, it seems that Trent Lott did ok despite his questionable beliefs and background toward race. Until he stuck his foot in his mouth and publicly spoke his own mind, he was never crucified for being involved with people who demonstrated hateful and racist behaviors. I don't know that Sen. Obama has been granted any leniency at all when you put it in context. (I am not an Obama supporter, by the way, just an objective observer).

Stupid is such a harsh word. Rob, you don't believe in cover-ups? Surely you don't believe everything you hear. And I know you can understand why black america would be quicker to distrust the government than white america. How long have black america had equal protection under the law? I would not label her comments stupid. I would probably say skeptical.
100% TRUE. You can't group all white people as racist any more than you can group all black people as loving and forgiving.

I don't think so. One of the great benefits of the internet is that like the printing press 500 years ago, it is letting people find out about why they are in the condition they are in. Once they find out they organize and revolt against the oppression and bring reformation and much need revolution. With the internet we can move away from the dark ages once again and move two steps closer to the truth. This movement with this technology will make a difference on racism among other needed reforms. I have been very slow to call anything stupid because of what you can find on the internet that will make you look like a fool for what you once believed. You have to be discerning, but you have to LOOK too.
I would not be surprised to learn that white people are using black people for their own ends. Have you seen or heard about the pyramid structure that explains how you can control society as explained by David Icke? Just review the first few minutes of his seminar here

If we don't know what is going on in society we can't solve its problems. Worse, we can contribute to them without knowing how.
Getting back to racism, the Declaration of Independence claims that it is self-evident that "all men are created equal". How are they equal?
The only way they are equal is when they are under the law. I would say there are enough laws on the books to protect anyone from racism, the problem is we don't know what those laws are or how to appropriately use them. I heard an interesting story related to this at http://www.Stop-Racism-Today.com. I think they have something good going there as far as equipping people to do something about the effects of racism when it happens.

First off, of course not all whites are racist. Last time i chkd alot of whites were involved in the civil rights movement. 2 of the 3 civil rights workers killed in mississippi in the "mississippi burning" incident were white. Secondly, some of what rev. Wright said was true but alot wasnt. If people like the tuskegee airmem didnt say "goddamn america" and saw fit 2 fight for america, even before the civil rights era, then what gives him the right to curse the united states

So you are saying that a church, the HOUSE OF GOD, is a good place to "vent their frustrations". A pastor has the responsibility to preach the word of God from the pulpit and nothing else. If Wright were truely a man of God he would practice what the Bible teaches. Wright would forgive those who shows racism towards him and love them as Christ loved everyone.
Obama does not get a pass for his pastor's comments. If he sat in the pew for 20 years while Wright preached hatred towards America and white people then Obama must have the same views about America and white people. If Obama does not have the same views about America and white people then why did he not leave the Church?
