I love Ry's porch, and while couches on lawns might look "trashy," it's honestly none of their business what someone does on their own property. i don't believe that the city of starkville really care if someone has a couch on their porch. the city's government, might, but aren't they supposed to represent us?

I wonder if this was tabled until such a time that there are few students around. Christmas Break, immediately after finals, etc. Students need to keep an eye on this one, It wouldn't surprise me to see the board try to sneak it in at a less publicized time.

I am a resident who does not have furniture outside, but I believe if it is private property that the furniture, yard sale, clothes line, etc. is on, than the city needs to stay out of it. Unless it poses an imminent threat to the public, there are WAY more important things to worry about in Starkville. Don't cry "Green Starkville," then eliminate clotheslines. It isn't hurting anyone, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen should use their time more wisely. After all it is an election year, ticking off voters=not good for election day.

Although the thought of sitting on a couch that has been left outside, exposed to pollen, humidity, the occasional squirrel, etc., makes me cringe, the local government doesn't have a leg to stand on when it wants to impose aesthetic standards on private residences. That's what homeowners' associations are for. I really find it hilarious that Dan Camp is this agitated about his little enclave while many of Starkville's major roads are full of cracks and potholes, and prone to flooding during thunderstorms. Nice priorities.

This is just one more step in a government's intrusion into and on our individual rights.
Is not this still America?
Rob is right to be concerned about an ordinance being enacted during the Summer. I have seen this happen more than once. If you want your voice heard, contact your representative now, before you leave for the Summer!

Starkville, you had better get a handle on this ASAP or you will wind up looking like South Jackson.
